Putting Everything Together: Editing Blog

Image
To start the editing process, first all the good shots needed to be picked out from the bad ones. Aja and I went through everything that was filmed and critiqued all of the shots. Once that was done, the best shots were gathered together. The software app iMovie was used to place all the videos in order. Although I did not physically participate in the editing process, I was the one who put in some input. I gave my opinion on how the shots should be put together and what type of sound effects were to be used. The first step in the editing process was to lay out the raw footage and the amount of time spent on each scene. I gave my opinion on speeding up some scenes because there was over 9 minutes of raw footage. One scene that I proposed should be sped up was the first scene. This was to create more tension. While, the last scene could be slowed down as the opening sequence comes to a conclusion. I also included that the seen where my partner pulls out of the driveway while leaving me

Filming at the Galleria Mall

Image
The second day of filming started off a little rocky. At first the filming was supposed to take place on the weekend at an abandoned building. However, this did not turn out as planned. The abandoned building that was supposed to be used was to available anymore. Also, due to scheduling some of the actors had to cancel before the day filming was supposed to take place. Some of them had to do their own filming and others were on vacation. This was time for the backup plans. Instead of filming in an abandoned building, the location was changed to the Galleria Mall. My partner and I called the mall in advance and got to film as long as no body was disturbed. Also the days of filming were split into two days due to the extra actors schedules. The first day of filming was with Elena who played the villain of the story. The second included Ashley, Kayla, and other extras who would play the dead bodies. In the Galleria the filming would take place in a creepy hallway which the dead bodies ar

Filming at University of Miami

Image
After school on Wednesday my partner and I went to Miami to film the first part of the film. The first part of filming was the campus. Sunrise middle school did not give us permission to film there. Therefore, the filming had to take place on a university campus. I asked my brother to get permission for me to go film on campus. He talked to people directly from the university of Miami and they allowed me to film there as long as I was not disturbing to other people. After school my dad drove us to Miami, which took 90 minutes to get there. Once I arrived the filming would start after I find a good location. My brother showed my partner and I around the campus so I could get a good idea of where the best location would be to film. The location needed to have a scenic background that was not to populated. We walked around the campus for about 30 minutes until the perfect spot was found. It was right in front of Cobb fountain and next to the part of the campus for music majors. A mutual f

Production Blog: Props & Makeup

Image
As the filming nears closer, the next step needed to be taken. This step is to get the props that would be used in the film. These props include: fake blood, fake gun, special effects makeup, phone, car, and costumes. For the fake blood this would be needed for the scene were the dead bodies are discovered and when I get shot. First I asked my partner if she had any at her house because I did not have it. However, she then let me know that she didn't. This meant that this would need to be bought. The next prop that was really important in the story line of the film was a gun. At first I thought that I should buy a realistic looking one that would really make the film look like a real opening sequence. I realized that would not be the best idea due to misunderstandings. I wouldn't want anyone who watches the video or see the filming take place in public to think actual harm was caused. I thought that this idea would need to be changed. I suggested that I could draw a realistic a

Production Blog: Music

Image
The next step for this project was to choose the music that would work with my film. This would require a lot of researching. Places like YouTube and Google is the best choice in finding good quality music. At first, I wanted to use a popular artists music as it draws more people in. A lot of research came in to use when I looked up how to use someone's song without getting a copyright strike and this included emailing a letter. However, I then realized that would not be the best choice. This is because I would have to deal with figuring out a way to use someone else's song without getting in trouble. It is very difficult to deal with copyright in this small-time frame. I would have to email the production company which would be very time consuming. As they would probably be very busy dealing with other things it would take a long time to get back to me. This includes all the emails they already have from other people asking to use their music. By the time they get to my email

Production blog: Recruitments

Image
Before the filming process starts actors would need to be gathered to participate. I asked each of my friends if they would be free on a specific day of the week. The days scheduled for filming were March 12 and 13, and March 15 and 16. The only days that actors were needed were for the abandoned building scenes. They needed to play as dead bodies and one needed to be the villain. Originally mutual friends were asked to participate including Kayla, and Ashley. Furthermore a villain was needed so a mutual friend Elena was asked. I thought she would be good to play the villain role because she had already an outfit that would go really well with her character. Later on Kayla let me know that she couldn't actually participate in the filming on that specific day. So Aja and I tried to see if some days could be moved around. However my partner and I both have very tight schedules as mentioned in my other blogs. So this made it very difficult to find a new date to film with Kayla. None

Page 1: On this page, we are doing two scenes. The first scene is the one in which Sophia is running and is shot. This is the attention grabber, which we then rewind into the next scene. In this scene, we are at the University of Miami. There is an establishing shot and then we will film in the hallway, where the students are being released from class.   Page 2: on this page, we have to more scenes. The first is the continuation of the last page.  We will film a medium shot of us walking down the campus as we talk and check our phones. This is when we find out that our friends are missing. The next scene will be us in the car, then talking about how scared we are. We will then leave the car and walk to the building.   Page 3: The next page is one scene, a continuation of the last page. We will now enter the building. There will be a close-up of us opening the door, and then a long shot as we walk in and look around. Aja then finds a door and calls Sophia over. Once they are together
